Tom McIntyre, Technical Admin of the NAWCC MB, started a thread called:

"Discussions of published auctions before sale"

If any message board member, whether a member or non-member of the NAWCC, had started that thread it would have either been taken down or moved to the NAWCC Members only area by any of the message board admins or moderators as being an inappropriate thread.

Since Tom McIntyre is on the admin team of the message board, it is allowed to stay. In fact when one member stated:

Quote:
I find this amazing...... Simply amazing..... Board Rules bar anyone from speaking about an auction that is "IN PROGRESS" and now suddenly some are discussing ways to interact with auctions houses while the auctions are live? If thats wrong please correct me!

If I have read correctly then it only goes to show. A rule is a rule, until someone powerful enough decides to change it. Then that rule becomes another rule. Gotta love those rules and regulations.......Rules are truly made to be broken!

A moderator actually replied:

Quote:
Yes, the person proposing it is that person(part of that team).

So, not only can "one" of the team do what he wants, the moderators won't do their job.

Here is the full text of Tom McIntyre's initial post:

How would folks feel about having these discussions before the sale?

I know my friend Bryan is really pissed at the moderators and I don't blame him. I also know I am going to get killed hereTom is a moderator. I think it is perfectly appropriate that he asked that question. Tom is trying to take the pulse of the community. He is interested in changing the rules. He wants feeback. We are all saying that the rules need to be changed. WTF?

I responded twice and stated the rules need to be changed AND NOT BY CASUAL MODERATORS and a few unfamiliar with the issues.

I have a lot to say about this but I have a hockey game on in a few minutes.

John

You missed my point completely.

It is not the question that I care about.

If that question was posted by me or any other message board member, who is not a moderator or part of the administration of the board, a moderator would have pulled it off the message board and either quarantined it for good or put it in the NAWCC Members only area.

In the past Tom and other moderators have done it for questions they did not like or for questions they thought were only for the interest of the organization.

That is the double standard I am talking about. Regular message board members would get moderated, the message board admin's and moderators will not.

Steve,

I do and I did understand what you were saying. I just don't see it your way. I don't see it as a double standard. I don't think it would necessarily be bad to have a non-moderator member pose/post this question but I do think it is different when a moderator does it.

John, I am primarily pissed (and tired) about the gold ole' boy network that currently exists within the message board. New rules are great but if it's the same people tasked with creating and enforcing them then I'm not confident this will be a success. Both the rules and some moderators are overdue for an update.

I also feel that Tom has crossed over the point of merely taking the community's pulse. The thread has taken a turn - now Tom is trying to convince and push this concept on other members. Tom is one of those types that is good at hearing, but not listening. Recently, I find many of the moderators suffer from this ailment.

I attempted to call Tom Wilcox to speak to him briefly about these matters and propose a few solutions but have not heard back.

Hopefully I will hear from him before he leaves for Europe.

Regards,
Bryan

You may hear from him but I doubt it. He is leaving after today and I know he is swamped.

Getting new moderators will not be an easy thing. Very few people actually want to do the work at the NAWCC anymore. Lots will complain but very few want to work.

I feel like the Message Board is in dire need of a coronary but is only getting a "boob" job!

Evil or Very Mad

I found the ramming thru TT's pre auction discussions on to the June board adjenda and BOD meeting both curious and outrageous.

Question: How is a non board member allowed to create an adjenda item?

(Who writes assoc BOD meeting adjendas? Wilcox, Newman?)
